Alawala caves are famous due to the discovery of two prehistoric human remains along with artifacts and utensils. The site is now an archeological dig site which is being investigated by the students of the University of Kelaniya. The tools made of bones and other hard materials are found along with variety of snails. The remains seem to be of an older woman and a young man. The waterfalls are located around the area and are around 45meters high.
