Ampara town is the headquarters of Ampara district, which is one of the three district in the Eastern province. The town itself does not boast of many places to visit, but there are quite a few archeological sites located in the district. In the past, it has been a resting place for hunters and now, it is a good place to base out your travels to Gal Oya National Park.
