How to reach Arugam Bay
General Info
Arugam is around 5 kms south to Pottuvil, on the verge of Yala East National Park. It lies at the place where the road ends on the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka.
By Air
There are direct domestic flights to Arugam bay from colombo.
By Train
The journey by train is not only pleasant but unforgettable in term of natural beauty. The train from Colombo leaves for Badulla at around 05.50 AM every day (except Saturday and Sunday). Confirm the time for the weekends well in advance.
After reaching Badulla, probably by the later hours of the noon, prefer staying there overnight and then travel onward to Pottuvil the following morning.
The journey by train is cheaper and convenient.
By Road
There is one direct bus daily from Colombo and Badulla to Pottuvil. One can hire a bike from any of these places and hit the road on his own terms.
The bus starts its journey from Colombo early in the morning by 4.40 am. The journey takes around 10-11 hours and is quite an inconvenient one.
