The city of Badulla is the capital of the Badulla district, which is one of the two districts in the Uva province. Based on the geography and climate the district has been divided in two regions. Upper region is utilized as vegetable cultivation and tea plantations. Paddy fields are mainly seen in the lower region.
Badulla city marks the end of the hilly region from the more popular Colombo, Kandy regions and provides access to the coast of the eastern part of the island.
