Belgaum lies in the foothills of Western Ghats and experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year. It has an atmosphere created by rivers, hills, mountains and dense forests that attract a number of tourists heading to Karnataka. Belgaum can be reached from Goa within 5 hours and also has an airport.
Belgaum has been under the reigns of Chalukya, Bahmani, Maratha and Rattan rulers. The famous Belgaum fort was constructed over an older fort in 1481. A place called Kamala Basti inside this fort has some of its remnants. The Masjid-I-Sata mosque is another attraction inside this fort. This apart, Neminatha Stone Sculpture inside Belgaum fort, carvings of musicians in an old temple outside the fort, Kapileshwara Hindu temple, handloom and silk weaver industry, Jamboti forest are other attractions in and around Belgaum.
