Overview

Bikaner, also called as Green City, located in the Northwest part of Rajasthan was founded by Rao Bikaji in 1486. He marked the foundation of this city by constructing the oldest temple in Bikaner – Laxminath Temple. Bikaner depicts a unique active form of life in a desert showcasing forts, temples, museums and camel festivals. The most prominent attraction in Bikaner is the massive and highly ornate fort of Junagar. The Lalgarh Palace, built in red sandstone and Laxmini Palace built in Indo-Saracenic style, are two important examples of Bikaner’s architectural richness. Other attractions include Moolnayakji, Karni Mata, Shivbhari, Lakshminath and Bhandasar temples, Kolayat pilgrimage, Golden Jubilee museum, Gajner Wild Life Sanctuary, Havelis, camel farms and many more. A camel festival is conducted in January annually, involving camel rides, shows, dance and music which are popular events amongst tourists.
