Chand Baori at Abhaneri was built by Raja Chand, a Nikumbh Rajput of Chahmana who ruled Abhaneri during 8th and 9th century AD. This is one of the earliest step-wells in Rajasthan. The structure is 19.8 meters deep, square shaped, has pillared verandahs on the sides and an enterance in the north. It has multiple cascading flights of steps on the 13 landings in south, east and west faces while the north face has multistoried pavilions with bathhouses and temples. Two projected niches on the lower story enshrine the image of Mahishasurmardini and Ganesh. The well was in use continuously until recent times.
