This village of the indigenous Vedda tribe or Wanniya-laeto consists of untouched jungles and jungle villages and is a major place to visit for an eco-traveller. The village comprises of 350 families which live as per the Veddah way of life. They are struggling to maintain their culture and tradition due to the commercialization of the lives of the people around them.
The Veddah Chief "Uruwarige Wanniyaleththo" is making all efforts to get the support of government and encourage the young Wanniya-Iaetos to sustain the Veddah way of life. If you wish to explore their life then it is advisable to pre arrange the visit to their village.

This village borders the Maduru Oya National Park and is around 20 kms away from Mahiyanganaya town, going towards Padiyatalawa. It is one the left side of the main road, a few kms off it.
It is close to 100 kms from Badulla city.
