Dhai Din ka Jhonpra was originally a Jain temple that was destroyed partially by Muhammad of Ghori in 1192 and then turned into a mosque by Qutub-ud-din Aibak in 1210 by forming the prayer hall. The seven arched screen however was not constructed until 1266. The mosque's name means the hut of two and a half days referring to a festival that lasted for that length of time and not the number of days it took to complete it.
The prayer hall has 124 reused columns that support the beautifully carved ceiling in Jain style.
