Dodda Ganapathi is located close to Bull temple in Basavanguddi. Built by Kempe Gowda, this Ganesh idol, about 18 ft in height and 16 ft in width, is carved from a single stone. The Rajgopuram in this temple was built in the year 1971, in the presence of Sri Sankaracharya. Interestingly, the idol is believed to be growing towards its right side, ever since it was carved. Also called as Sakthi Ganapaty or Satya Ganapathy, the temple is worshipped by a huge number of devotees and locals especially during Ganesh Chaturthi. During this festival, the idol is coated with 100 kgs of butter, turmeric powder or kumkum for decoration. The local weaving community follows a tradition of offering hundreds of coconuts to Lord Ganesha annually.
