Gampaha is the capital of the Gampaha district. This city is also known for Ayurveda and the “Ayurveda Chakravarthi Raja Vaidya” award winner, Pundit Gabriel Perera Wickramarachchi, practiced medicine here. He also established the "Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute" for Ayurveda education.
