The Palace was built in 1799 by Madho Singh I as a pleasure palace. The motivation came from the Lake Palace at Udaipur where Madho Singh I had spent his childhood.
The palace has five floors out of which the first four floors are inside water and only the top floor remains outside. The Mansagar Lake in which the Palace is built attracts lots of migratory birds during winter.
The palace has been converted into a Heritage Hotel.
