Jawhar is a hill station founded in 1343 AD and was a part of Bombay Presidency during British rule. Also called ‘Mahabaleshwar of Thane’, Jawhar has earned considerable attention from tourists. It is a tribal Kingdom of Maharashtra and this fact is exquisitely represented in the famous Warli paintings of Jawhar. Jai Vilas Palace also called Raj Bari was the residence of Munke family and has intricately carved walls and domes. The Palace of Tribal Lords, Bhupatgad epic, long stretches of Cashew trees, Dadar Kora Falls are amongst other attractions. Points like Hanuman Point, where Lord Hanuman is said to have rested and Sunset Point offer beautiful views of valley and lush greenery. Jawhar is at an elevation of 518 m and has cool climate. One can reach here from Mumbai (180 km), Nashik (80 km) and Dahanu (56 km).
