Karjat is a well known recreational spot amongst Mumbaikars owing to its greenery and serenity. It is situated amidst the Konkan coastal plains and Bhor Ghat. Ulhas River has its source in Karjat and the Ulhas Valley is beautifully green during monsoons. A number of water sports like river rafting are promoted in this river. Kondana caves, built between 200 – 100 BC are located at 1 hour trekking distance from Kondane Village. These exemplify practices of Hinayana Sect in the viharas, chaityas and carvings in the caves.
