Karnala bird santuary is located on the Mumbai Goa highway about 20km from Panvel. Its lush green much in contrast to the concrete jungles of Mumbai and its suburbs. Its proxomity to Mumbai is the reason why there are loads of people visiting this place. There is a car parking at the entry of the sanctuary and its rates are quite Mumbai like. A number of nurserys' and holiday resorts have sprung up along the mumbai-goa highway which cuts through the santuary. For the nature lovers there are a few nature walks in the dense woods of the Sayhadris and for trekkers there is a trek to Karnala Fort which takes anywhere from 1 to 3 hrs depending on the fitness levels.
