Kavaratti, the administrative island of Lakshadweep is the busiest amongst the 32 islands in this Union Territory. The island is surrounded by a beautiful lagoon, which is the centre for water sports including diving, swimming, kaykaying, etc. The Ujra Mosque is known for its uniqueness and stands apart from 51 other mosques in Karavatti. The mosque is built in white marble and has a ceiling carved out of a monolithic drift-wood. The recently built aquarium is an initiative to introduce tourists to the richness of marine life forms. The Lakshadweep Museum in Karavatti displays a variety of corals, sea shells and preserved sea animals. The most popular activity in Karavatti is traveling in glass-bottomed boats, designed to explore aquatic salty-water creatures like cucumbers, fishes, sea-anemones and coral beds. Deep sea can be explored by hiring yachts and kayaks from Karavatti.
