Keylong is the district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti District. Located at an average height of 3350m near the intersection of Chandra Valley, Bhaga Valley and the Chenab Valley, Keylong is a cluster of small villages and lies on the Manali-Leh Highway 120km from Manali. The places is cut off from November to April because of heavy snowfall at Rohtang Pass.
Due to its proximity to Tibet, there is a strong influence of Tibetan Culture. Khardong Gompa and Shashur Gompa are two important Buddhist Monasteries located close by.
