Khajjiar Lake is situated in the city of Khajjiar, in the North Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The city of Khajjiar derives it names from the ancient 12th century golden-domed temple of Khajinag. Khajjiar is located at an altitude of 1960m above sea level in the inner slopes on the foothills of Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas.
The terrain of the stream-fed Khajjiar Lake area is dominated by modest to lush green meadows and surrounded by pine and deodhar forest. This place is known for its tranquility, serenity and kindness of people. As you approach Khajjiar by road or hiking trails, you will see beautiful apple orchards.
You must visit Khajjiar and if possible, hike in the vicinity of the Lake.

How to reach
Khajjiar is about 16 miles (approx 25 kms) from Chamba and 10 miles (approx 16 kms) from Dalhousie.
The best way to get to Khajjiar is Delhi -> Pathankot -> Chamba -> Khajjiar.
a) Train from Delhi to Pathankot (~300 miles or 485 kms) will approximately take 10 hours.
b) Bus from Pathankot to Chamba (~75 miles or 120 kms) will approximately take 4 hours. A taxi can reach Chamba in around 3 hours. Alternatively, a taxi from Pathankot to Chamba should take around 3.5 hours.
c) Local bus from Chamba to Khajjiar (~16 miles or 25 kms) takes about 1.5 hours.
A friend of mine trekked from Dalhousie to Khajjiar to Chamba. He left early is the morning and reached Chamba by 8:00 pm, after spending 2-3 hours in Khajjiar.
