Overview

Also called Kondapalli Qila, this fort came into existence in the 14th century. It was constructed by Prolaya Vema Reddy, the King of Reddy Dynasty on the Eastern Ghats. The majestic fort was occupied by rulers of Reddy, Gajapati, Vijaynagar and Qutubshahi Dynasties. The Reddy Kings used Kondapalli Fort as a recreational center. During later years, the fort grounds were utilized as business hub and for British military training. The three story rock tower and shrine of Garib Sahib (Persian Saint) are noteworthy attractions. The wooden toys of Kondapalli are sold in Kondapalli Village near the fort. The monument is at a distance of 16 km from Vijaywada and can be reached by using regular bus service to the palce.
