Overview

Kurseong(4864ft) is a quiet hill station situated in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, 30 km from Darjeeling and 47 km from Silguri. The climate is pleasant throughout the year and never gets severely cold as it does in Darjeeling. With all the serenity and view of beautiful mountains and nature and without the hustle bustle of Darjeeling, this small town is a good option for those who want to relax.

Kurseong is locally known as Kharsang which in the Lepcha language means the land of white orchids. The main source of income for this town is tourism and education. Some of the finest tea gardens in the world are located over here. Not only the best but the most expensive tea (100 euros plus for one kg) is sold here. Kurseong is also known as 'the school town' as it has some of the most renowned schools from the colonial era. Various walks, treks and tours are organized by the Tourism Department, the most popular being the one to Mirik via Namsu and Balasun River.
