Lumbini, a place of symbolic importance, is the birth place of Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Lord Buddha was born here in 623 B. C to queen Maya Devi. Owing to that, it is one of the biggest pilgrimage centers of the world where millions of Buddhists, and others, come to pay their homage. Not only this, it is one of the four pillars of Buddhist pilgrimage circuit. The common thing in all these places is that all the religious ceremonies are conducted under the sacred bodhi tree.
After being declared as a world heritage site, this place has been preserved with utter parental care. One will not find any shop, any restaurant, any cafe or house here. Only Buddhist Monasteries have the right to own ground here.
This sacred place carries in its heart the ruins of ancient monasteries, a holy Bodhi tree, a bathing pond that is centuries old, the Asokan pillar and the Mayadevi temple (the exact place where Gautam Buddha was born.
Today and for ever, Lord Buddha and his memoirs (in any form) have stood tall to world peace and happiness.
Hidden Gems!

1) If visiting the place, do plan to stay over night here. Though you might not get many options, with only 3-4 hotels/lodges, but the place is beautiful to stay with everything green around it.
2) While in temples/ monasteries, just follow the local people, if you are not very sure of 'whats and hows' of the place.
DON'Ts
1) The place is drenched in Buddhism, so please weigh every single word you utter, esp to the locals. A slight mistake might be considered an offense and dis-respect.
