The Madhya Kailash Temple is a recently built white structure dedicated to Lord Venkata Ananda Vinayakar who is more commonly known as Moolavar. The temple has been constructed according to the cult of Ganapatyam which is one of the five cults mentioned in Adi Shankara. The main temple is encircled with shrines of Lord Vishnu, Lord Surya, Lord Shiva and Goddess Devi. On Vinayaka Chathurti the rays of the sun fall on the presiding deity. Since Vinayaka is the form of the first hum Om, eight bells have been installed representing Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni. The temple is also popular for the single idol of Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanumana. The right side is Ganesha and on the left is Hanumana. The idol is called Adhyantha Prabhu. The temple is located 15 kms from the city centre of Chennai and easily accessible by public transport. The bus stop close to the temple is an important terminus for many state run bus routes.
