Muzhappilangad beach (drive-in beach/ Mahe beach) spreads itself on the northern strip of coastal Kerela. The beach is 22 km from Kannur and 75 km from Kozhikode. Fringed with beautiful palm trees, it gives an altogether different meaning to the nature. The hard sand of the beach makes driving a wonderful experience. This is one of the few beaches that give the maximum access to the mighty sea. One can walk around 200 feet into the sea without the slightest danger because the sea gets shallow at this point resulting in calm tides. Still unexplored, it gives serene atmosphere to those who want a break from the crowded cities.
The people here are simple and earn their livelihood mainly through fishing. The few resorts on the beach-line are simple yet elegant, with their balconies opening on the sea.
A visit to this place makes people believe that India is rich when it comes to natural beauty.
Hidden Gems!
1. Lagoon - This beach is kinda special; rocks out in the sea at some distance mean the waves come in much gentler. One can go much more into the sea than on any usual beach. Use you discretion and be wise however, one should never take chances with mother nature.
2. Drive-in beach - This beach is one of the very few drive-in beaches in India (many times termed the only one!). Hard sand here means you can drive right on the 3+km long beach. With one car tyre just splashing in water and one outside, this is just too much fun to miss!
