Mahuli in Thane District of Maharashtra is a small town perched on Shayadri ranges. Being the highest point on Shayadris in Thane, Mahuli has forts, temples, green lawns and rivers serving as major tourist attractions.
Shivaji Maharaj of Maratha Dynasty strongly reined over this place and built Mahuli Fort at the hill summit (2815 ft.). This fort was held by Marathas and survived many attacks, but was finally lost during the 'Treaty of Purandar'. Owing to thick forested areas and hilly terrains, a major part of the town has been declared as National Reserve. Also a religious centre, the town houses shrines of Vishveshwara, Rameshwara, Boleshwara and Sangameshwara. Mahuli also offers great opportunities for trekking, which usually begins from base temple of Mata Geeta Bharati.
