Malvan is located on the Konkan coast in the Sahayadri Ranges and is known for its beautiful beaches, forts and adventure activities. The town was once famous as a trading centre. Today it is popular for its saltpans, Chinese clay pottery and cuisine which mainly include sea-food.
The popular beaches are Tarkarli Beach and Chiwla Beach. Sindhudurg fort or the Ocean Fort was built by Shivaji in 1664 and is a popular attraction. Other attractions are the Rock Garden and Jay Ganesh Temple which has the idol of the deity made in gold. Dhamapur Lake situated to the west of the Sindhudurg Fort is known for its clear and clean water. The Lake is spread over 5 acres and is ideal for water sports and boating. A Temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagawati is located close by. Vengurla to the south of Malvan is a long stretch of white sand with cashew, jackfruit, mango and coconut tress.
Devbag, a small but beautiful village, located 8 kms from Malvan is surrounded by water on three sides. During monsoons the side attached to the land gets flooded and Devbag looks like an island. The local rice and fish curry is very popular and the beaches of Mithbhav, Tambeldeg and Kunkeshwar are worth visiting.
Sridev Rameshwar Temple in Acharya, 16 kms from Malvan, and can be easily reached by bus. The sea shore of Acharya is large and pleasant.
Masure, 14 kms from Malvan, is a small village which has a Temple dedicated to Shri Bharadee Devi. The Temple is famous for the month long fair that is held in February each year. The Bharatgad and Bhagwatgad Forts which were constructed in 1701 AD are situated by the creek side.

Malvan can easily be explore on foot. State run buses, private cabs and auto rickshaws are also available.
Malvan is 10 km from Kasal which falls on the Mumbai Goa National Highway. Malvan is 540 kms from Mumbai and 160 kms from Kolhapur. Government run buses ply from Mumbai, Pune and Kolhapur to Malvan. The nearest railway station is Kudal (45 kms)
