Murudeshwar, also known as ‘Town of Temples’, is located at a distance of 16 km from Bhatkal. Murudeshwar beach, opening into the mouth of Arabian Sea forms the coastline of Murudeshwar town. It is surrounded by Kanduka Giri hill on the east, giving it a scenic appearance. Tourists and pilgrims visit Murudeshwar Temple on Kanduka Giri hill built in Dravidian style, followed by a visit to the sandy beach. Coconut and areca trees are seen here in abundance apart from cashew, mango, banana and jackfruit trees. During festivals, Kambala or Buffalo race, Korikatta or Cockfights are popular events around the beach. Attractions surrounding the beach are a massive fort which was renovated by Tipu Sultan, a 15 high idol of Lord Shiva and a 500-year old Shiva Temple. One can reach here from Goa by air or from Hubli by rail.
