Overview 

Ratnagiri is a fast growing town, located on the coast of Arabian Sea in Konkan region. It receives huge rainfall and hence experiences soil erosion. The soil in the valleys of Ratnagiri is highly fertile, where rice, cashew nut, coconut and other plants are cultivated. Ratnagiri is home to world famous Alphonso mangos, large quantities of which are exported annually. Apart from agriculture, fishing is an important occupation here. The best locations in vicinity of Ratnagiri are Raapur Ganga known for fourteen small puddles with different water temperatures in each, Thebaw Palace, Malgund monument, Jay Gad Fort, Velneshwar Temple and beach, Ratan Durg fort, Ganapathi Pule temple and beach, Shivasamarth Gad sculptures, etc.

Do buy the artifacts made up of sea shells. Also buy the horticulture fruits and fruit products. Do buy the local preparations- Ambapoli, pancakes prepared from dried and crushed mangoes and Phanaspoli, prepared from Jackfruit. The Devgad mango is very famous and is available during the summers.
