Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple, the place echoing with bells, is just 37 km from Lansdowne. The deity of this temple is Lord Shiva. The temple is located amidst thick forests of Deodar and Pine, serving the dual purpose of religious sentiments and adventure.
Mahashivarathri is celebrated annually with great pomp and show, and devotees come here in large numbers to offer prayers. They offer milk, snadal paste and agarar to shivling. During this period, a small dharamshala is opened for the pilgrims for accomodation.

The best months to visit are from March-October, as the place is flooded with festivals. The biggest festival is Mahashivratri, which is celebrated during the first week of March. The other grand festivals celebrated are Deepavali, Annakuta, Nrising Leela.

How to reach 

You can reach by air, rail and road. Jolly grant is the nearest airport here and is 160 kms from here. From there you can hire a taxi.
Trains will drop you at Lansdowne railway station. From there you can rent a cab to reach your destination.
Many buses connect Lansdowne and Kotdwar which is 40 km distance. Kotdwar is further connected to major cities like Delhi.
If driving, the drive from Delhi to Tarkeshwar temple is around 270 km, which makes it a journey of 6 hours, with enough breaks. NH 24 makes it easy to reach Tarkeshwar. Starting from Delhi, one shifts to NH 58 and reaches Meerut, which is around 55 km from Mohan Nagar. Taking NH 119, one crosses Bijnor and then Derikhal, from where Charuliya Khal is just 35 km. Just 7 km from there and one is at the footsteps of the temple.
