Tung Fort is one of the strongest built forts in Maharashtra, built by the Maratha rulers. ‘Tung’ (Peak) fort is located at a hill summit (3.500 ft) on Shayadri Ranges and occupies an area of 1,200 ft. The fort was strategically built at such a height making it resistant to enemy-attacks. Undoubtedly then, the fort can be reached only by a tiresome and difficult trek which may begin at Kamshet near Lonavala or from Morvi Dongar. It is also possible to approach the fort from Pawna River, near which the Phagne Dam is located. Tung Fort is also known as Kathingad and one can find temples of Devi Tungai and Devi Tuljai, a cave and a lake. The fort is also a vantage point for viewing the beautiful Pawna Lake at the bottom and the Devgad, Visapur, Lohagad and Tikona forts.
